Darwin – Botanical Gardens and Mindil Beach night markets (Day 2 – 18th August)

Day 2 and we headed off to look at the George Brown Botanic Gardens walking a couple of km’s to the north of Darwin CBD. The gardens were pretty good but fairly new as many areas were still being established and vegetation quite dry. It was hot too so as we were feeling a little wilted ourselves we retreated to find a cool drink via the new keys housing district and back into town. Darwin city centre is compact but smart and has alot of historic buildings. It’s role during WWII is fascinating and I’ll tell you a bit more about that in the Day 3 blog.

Daniel, Jodie, Paul, Karen and Maggie at the Botanical Gardens!

Finding shade above Mindil Beach!

Sunset over Darwin harbour - view from hotel!

In the evening we headed to Mindil Beach famous for its Thursday and Sunday evening markets. We were told a guy plays four didgeridoos at the same time so we  felt we could’nt miss out on that! We all had some great food from the Chinese food stalls too!

Hey look I can play four didgeridoos at once!!
